The Dixie Chicken Gentlemen’s Club of Memphis Tennessee is a completely fictitious gentlemen’s club that plays an interesting role in my novel, ‘Me, Boo and the Goob’. The misspelling in the logo is intentional.
Many folks will remember that the strip club business in Memphis was once dominated by a group of guys from Harrisburg, Arkansas. They were called ‘The Hillbilly Mafia’, and were led, so to speak, by Danny Owens. While Danny was seizing control of the strip club business, it was not uncommon for competitor’s establishments to mysteriously catch fire. Danny was a tough guy who eventually went to prison.
The Dixie Chicken Gentlemen’s Club is inspired by a couple of Danny’s clubs. Don’t be surprised if Danny, or someone like him, makes an appearance in the sequel to ‘Me, Boo and the Goob’.
